Our Primary Mission is to break the stigma of mental health, suicide, and seeking treatment within our warrior culture to facilitate suicide prevention for our Veterans and Military.
To facilitate our Primary Mission, we aim to
Raise our continued awareness of the Veteran & Active Military suicide epidemic because we still lose, on average, over 20 Veterans & Military each day.
Honor the service, and forever remember the lives of those Veterans & Active Military who died by suicide as well as honor, respect, and unite their families.
Be a tangible symbol of hope to living Veterans and Active Military to let them know that they are not alone, and to remind Veterans & Military that stigma-free treatment is available.
Unite Nonprofits (with the SAR Flag) across the country working on combating Veteran & Active military suicide.
Work with Congress to have the SAR Flag officially recognized (similar to the POW/MIA Flag).
Work with Congress to have September 22nd annually recognized as “Veterans Suicide Awareness & Remembrance Day.”
Our goal is to fly the SAR Flag at the White House & U.S. Capitol; the Departments of State, Defense, and Veterans Affairs; the United States Postal Service post offices; all national cemeteries in the Federal system; the National Vietnam Veterans Memorial and the Korean War Memorial. All must fly the SAR Flag displaying our nation’s commitment to recognize and forever remember the Veterans & Active Military who died by suicide, as well as to honor their families and to work further on suicide prevention and intervention.
The Suicide Awareness & Remembrance Flag stands as a tangible symbol of hope to living Veterans and Active Military by displaying our solidarity in the daily fight to end Veteran suicide while raising our continued awareness.
Simply by talking about suicide, we take away the power it has over us, thereby removing the stigma associated with mental health, seeking treatment, and Veteran & Active Military suicide.
By doing this, we target the status quo and thus change how we perceive mental health and suicide to facilitate our Primary Mission.
